Gone are the days when it was enough for Altoona to be simply known as “Railroad City.”
Today’s world is much more diverse and demanding. Technology is changing the vast majority of the economy, and more and more employers are offering remote job opportunities. And as the number of remote workers increases, those employees are going to be assessing locations all over the country to find the areas that have the most appeal to them.
Blair County features a very enticing combination of affordability and leisure options for active people looking for an ideal home, and I believe we have all the necessary ingredients to thrive in this new economical environment.

- The cost of living is low compared to many other areas of the country
- The geography boasts beautiful scenery and four distinct seasons
- Blair County has a rich and exciting history full of extraordinary people and events
- The crime rate in Blair County is much better than most cities in the US.
- Blair County sits within a few hours of Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Wash DC, NYC, Richmond and Baltimore, yet we retain our more rural environment. There is plenty of opportunity to increase traffic between us and them. And locals have more options for quick trips to various cities than from nearly any other place in the country.
